3 REASONS FOR DIY CHALK PAINT
I paint pretty much everything except walls with chalk paint. Here’s why:
- Paint goes twice as far.
- Little if any sanding is needed.
- Can be used on almost any substrate; unfinished wood, finished wood, laminate, plastic, metal.
It’s so easy to make, no need to pay extra to buy it pre mixed. All you need is Plaster of Paris. I get mine at Home Depot for $6.78.
Tip: Buy a set of measuring spoons and cups at a discount store just for your paint.
If you store them with your paint supplies, you’ll always have them handy and won’t have to worry about mixing them up with your kitchen stuff.
Note: This does not work with Rustoleum paints! There is something in Rustoleum that won’t mix with the Plaster of Paris. I haven’t had a problem with any other paint however.
Here’s a breakdown of the measurements that I use. I figured them all out at once and broke it down so I don’t have to do any math while in my “creative zone”. (I tend to be more right brained than left, and suffer from self diagnosed dyscalculia).
